Dating back thousands of years, the primary aim of Academies is to equip students with the ability to understand and interpret the era they live in. This entails the development of skills in both knowledge and analysis simultaneously. It is a well-known fact that the era we live in is an age of communication. We also add the characterization of the image/visual age to this. Therefore, we evaluate Cinema and Television not only as tools of communication or culture but also as tools for understanding, interpreting, and knowing the era. With this understanding, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, which commenced its educational activities in the 2010-2011 academic year, offers our students an educational process where art and knowledge are conducted together. Our aim is to train our students as individuals who are sensitive to societal issues and possess an analytical perspective both academically and professionally. Students entering the department participate in theoretical courses for the first two years. They acquire technical, historical, and theoretical knowledge about world and Turkish cinema. These courses are supported with visual materials and aim to instill a professional viewer consciousness in students. From the fourth semester onwards, students participating in practical courses realize short film and documentary projects. They receive all the necessary technical equipment and computer technologies from our department to realize their projects. They complete their projects in the editing workshop within our faculty. Additionally, through elective courses and courses taken from the other 10 departments of the Faculty of Fine Arts, they gain expertise in various fields of art. They attend their classes and use the editing room at the University’s Pocket Cinema. Our department students benefit from the support of the Cinema and Television faculty members and technicians, as well as the facilities of the Faculty and the University in realizing their own ideas and projects. Gaziantep University Department of Radio, Television and Cinema students can reinforce their knowledge in their field by utilizing the digital film archive located in the university central library. They can also benefit from the opportunities of the Cinema Society, which operates within the university.
